Why Uplift
What Is Businesses Uplift?
The CDC estimates that more than 40,000 Vermonters experience intimate partner violence and/or sexual harm each year.
These individuals are not only community members, but also customers, volunteers, and employees.
We created the Businesses Uplift program to partner with Vermont employers in better supporting the people—including survivors—who keep our state’s businesses and organizations running.
Businesses Uplift aims to:
- Normalize conversations about domestic and sexual harm and raise awareness.
- Strengthen internal processes so employers can effectively support employees affected by these issues.
- Equip staff with tools and strategies to recognize and respond to instances of harm, whether at work or in their personal lives.
- Contribute to a broader cultural shift around supporting survivors of domestic and sexual harm.

How It Works
Over the course of the program, Businesses Uplift cohort members will receive free access to:
- A personalized assessment of organizational needs and goals
- Guidance on creating model workplace policies
- Customizable trainings for groups of various sizes
- Resources and informational materials
- Peer learning opportunities with other participating employers
